Salima Mawji is a specialist further and higher education lawyer with over 25 years’ experience operating in the academic sector. She has assisted many clients in securing their rights including in relation to:
- academic appeals;
- disciplinary issues;
- sexual misconduct allegations;
- challenges to fee status;
- fitness to study;
- fitness to practice; and
- PhD issues.
Salima’s approach focuses on settling disputes, where both parties find a mutually acceptable solution with the least cost outlay for her clients.
Salima qualified as a solicitor in 2001 at AP Law where she became Head of the Education Department. In 2005, she co-founded Match Solicitors, England’s first boutique education law practice, classed as a top-tier Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners firm and ranked No. 1 in the country for education law. The success of the Match Solicitors brand resulted in it being sold in 2018 before Salima founded SalimaMawji Law in 2019 and then joined IBB Law as a Consultant in 2020 where she built the Education Department from scratch. In 2023 Salima continued to be listed as an expert in Chambers & Partners and ranked in Legal 500 as part of IBB’s Education Team. Salima now brings her expertise to NBB Law as a Consultant to advise and assist in building a leading Education Law Team for the Firm.
Salima has been interviewed by almost all the national media outlets including newspapers, television and radio regarding Education Law issues.
As a volunteer in the Ismaili Community, Salima served as legal counsel to His Highness the Aga Khan’s National Council in the UK between 2013 and 2017.
Salima is fluent in Swahili and Kutchi. She enjoys reading, writing, travelling, hiking and spending time with her dog, Marley.
